HARRIET DYER: Easily Distra… ★★★★⯨

Harriet Dyer is gloriously chatty, wonderfully original and blessed with a very high gag rate. From the outset, the audience - and even the venue tech - were chuckling. Neurodivergent and bipolar, Harriet has an endearingly anarchic approach to comedy, racing through stories about her mischievous mother, gay father, learning to drive, underage drinking, a wetsuit, seagulls, slugs and even whether cows might cure baldness. Somehow, it all makes sense, and everyone in the room was laughing raucously.

A childhood friend once told her, “You are the only person I know who has not changed since you were four.” It feels like a perfect description. Her brilliantly delivered “Face of a vegan, morals of a sausage” is another memorable gem.

Dyer’s mind ricochets delightfully from one subject to another, with callbacks, surprises and observations arriving at a furious pace. “There is a chance that I am overthinking things” perhaps says it all. Very funny, very original and tremendous fun.
