BRENNAN REECE: Live! ★★★★⯨

Brennan Reece is an immensely affable, charming and likeable standup with just the right amount of self-deprecation and a seemingly endless supply of gags. Ten years after his first Edinburgh Fringe show, he reflects on performing at the world’s biggest arts festival to audiences spanning the greatest agerange, and we are all thoroughly enjoying ourselves being part of it.

He describes himself as working class, 100% British according to his DNA and, despite being camp, straight. His observation that the “+” at the end of LGBTQ+ is the hour-later version is a gem. Gen Z and the under-30s are teased about their theoretical 160-year lifespans, while he assumes that retirees have so much time they can get into a bath, close its door, and sit waiting for it to fill, and then again to empty.

Out of the blue Brennan discovers in the audience two university friends, one Russian and one Ukrainian, prompting a huge roar of audience approval. And having been mentioned already, his girlfriend even gets a writing credit for "having been asked whether she will freeze her eggs, her response was that she would air-fry them".

An impressively funny, warm and engaging hour that is definitely worthy of a solid donation in his bucket - while still smiling - on your way out.
